Timothy Lee O’Brien, 57, of Oak Grove, was born June 24, 1966, in Warrensburg, the son of William Lee and Nila Louise (Miller) O’Brien. He departed this life, Wednesday, February 7, 2024, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident.
Tim was a 1984 Holden High School graduate and was a United States Army veteran.
Early in his career Tim was employed as a machine operator for Stahl’s Specialty in Kingsville. He had also worked as a meat-cutter for Concordia Meats and most recently as a stocker for Hy-Vee in Lee’s Summit. He was a member of the Oak Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church. He enjoyed listening to music and watching westerns and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and recently celebrated 15 years of sobriety. He was a quiet and simple man who dedicated his life to helping those who were also struggling.
He was preceded in death by his father William O’Brien; one sister, Carol Ann Hammond; and his stepfather, Claude Dechman.
He is survived by his mother Nila Dechman of Oak Grove; four siblings, Sherry L. Peterson of Garden City, Jean (and Sam) Thomason of Holden, Tammy S. (and Charlie) Thompson of Odessa, and Michael T. (and Kelly) O’Brien of Clarksville, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; other relative and friends.
Cremation has been accorded.
Visitation and memorial services were held Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the Oak Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pastor Mark Tagaloa officiated. Inurnment will be in the Kingsville Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Oak Grove Seventh-day Adventist Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
