Teresa Kay Cavin, 52, of Lake Lotawana, Missouri, was born Wednesday, December 19, 1956 in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Donald E. and Gwendolyn A. (Adams) Coates. She departed this life Saturday, January 31, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
On April 22, 1978, she was united in marriage to Randall E. Cavin in Junction City, Kansas.
She was raised in Junction City, Kansas. She attended Kansas University, earned her Associate of Arts degree at Longview Community College in 1989, and Bachelor of Science in Management at Parkville University in 2002. She was a Certified Defense Financial Manager with 18 years of civilian Federal Service having worked for United States General Services Administration and the Defense Finance and Accounting Service in Kansas City.
She was a First Class Girl Scout and a past member of Boy Scouts of America and Beta Sigma Phi. She was a member of AGA; and a member of ASMC, where she had served as President and Treasurer of the Kansas City Chapter. She enjoyed boating, swimming, reading, time with family and friends. She had a passion for genealogy and published genealogies for family members in 1999 and 2008.
She was preceded in death by her father, granddaughter Angela Cavin, a sister Janice Blevins and her mother-in-law Elaine Cavin.
She is survived by her husband Randy of the home; 2 sons Ryan R. Cavin and Daniel R. Cavin and his wife Katherine of Independence; 1 daughter Alexis Cavin and her fiancAC. Alex Boney of the home; 2 grandchildren Logan Ryan and Devon Cavin; her mother Gwendolyn Coates and her companion of Junction City; 1 brother Michael Coates and his wife Tina of Gassville, Arkansas; 2 sisters Sally Bidleman and her husband Bryce of Wichita, and Stacey Edwards of Maze, Kansas; her father-in-law David Cavin of Lake Lotawana; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at the Hope United Methodist Church in Lone Jack. Pastor Dave Owsley officiated. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Cork Cavin, Phillip Cavin, James Collins, Andrew Gerard Eric Majors, and John Majors.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Cancer Treatment Center of America or to the family and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
