Sherman Lee Brown, 87, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born, May 26, 1937, in Mexico, Missouri, the son of Leo and Irene (Forbis) Brown. He departed this life Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the Kansas City Hospice Surrounded by love and family.
In 1971, he was united in marriage to Laura P. “Penny” (Carpenter) McManis. She preceded him in death on March 14, 2016.
Sherman was a gifted carpenter owning and operating Sherman Brown Custom Homes. Following retirement he worked for Bullseye in Lee’s Summit. He was a active member of the Elks Lodge #284, Lee’s Summit, where he earned Elk of the Year in 2001 and 2002. He enjoyed watching sports and T.V. especially the Chiefs and Gunsmoke, thrift store shopping, and playing the lottery. He never met a stranger and always had a smile and a chuckle when telling his jokes and stories (and maybe a few tall tales). He especially loved drinking a cold beer and visiting his family and friends.
Sherman was also preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Irene; stepfather, Ralph Phillipe; one son, John Friel; and his stepdaughter, Debi Dains.
He survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Jamie Ray; grandchildren, Summer Ray, Richard (and Hollie) Youngblood, Michael (and Jayme) Dains, Jeremy (and Heather) Dains, Matthew Dains, Lucas (and Jessica) Linden, Madison (and Jeff) McClafferty, Garrett Friel, Jordan Friel, and Julianne Smith; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; other relatives; and a host of many friends.
Cremation has been accorded.
A memorial visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kansas City Hospice House and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
