Roy Perkins

Roy Ivan "Rowdy Roy" Perkins, 60, of Holden, Missouri, was born Sunday, August 1, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Clifford O. and Doris M. (Oliver) Perkins. He departed this life at 7:18 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at his home.

Roy was a United States Marine Corps veteran honorably serving our country as a "Tunnel Rat" during the Vietnam War.

He was employed by Hallmark cards for over 37 years. He was a member of the Strasburg Baptist Church and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3118 of Pleasant Hill and a member of the Harrisonville American Legion Post.

Roy was a free spirit who enjoyed life to its fullest. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his life partner Karen E. Vaughn of the home; his son and daughter-in-law Andy and Shanna Perkins of Bates City, Missouri; his granddaughter Maleeha Mahmood of Kansas City, Missouri; 2 brothers Wayne Perkins of Holden, Missouri and Fred (and Judith) Perkins of Kingsville, Missouri; his sister L. "Susie" Fuimaono of Kingsville; several nieces and nephews other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the funeral home. Pastor Preston Sanders, minister of the Strasburg Baptist Church officiated. Chris Hummel, Commander of VFW Post #3118 gave the eulogy. Interment was in the Kingsville Cemetery with full military graveside services by the VFW Post #3118 Honor Guard. Members of the post also served as Roy's casket bearers.

Memorial contributions are suggested to VFW Post #3118 and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
