Nina Wealand

Nina Louise Wealand, 84, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and formerly of Pleasant Hill, Mo., passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at the John Knox Care Center in Lee's Summit.

Nina was born September 19, 1923 to Albert and Flo (Epple) Carter. She was the eldest of three children. She graduated from Lee's Summit High School and was secretary to two Captains at the Lee's Summit Highway Patrol for 28 years.

Nina and Arnold were united in marriage August 6, 1960 and settled in a home that Arnold built near Pleasant Hill, Missouri. They made the most of their retirement traveling throughout the United States and Mexico, often taking grandchildren along. The couple also visited family and friends throughout Missouri.

Nina enjoyed baking and prepared many birthday cakes for family and friends. Other hobbies included making china dolls and handcrafting outfits for them. She also quilted and collected white Hobnail glassware. Nina and Arnold loved their pets, all animals and nature; and made a yearly visit to the Omaha Zoo. Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Cecile Fette.

She is survived by her adoring husband of 47 years, Arnold, of Lee's Summit; 1 daughter Linda Brock and her husband Bruce of Marshall, Missouri; 2 grandchildren Jason Brock and his wife Keely of Parkville, and their son Tanner, and Jennifer Nguyen and her husband Tan of Lee's Summit; 1 step-son Tom Wealand and his wife Stephanie of Kansas City, Missouri; 1 step-daughter Jana Balke of Lumberton, New Jersey; 4 step-grandchildren; Amanda Forest and her husband David of Oceanside, California and their daughter Hayden, Wendy Wealand of Columbia, Missouri, Eric Balke of Lumberton, Tricia Norton and her husband Matthew of Medford Lake, New Jersey; 1 brother Dr. Harold Carter and his wife Paula of Jefferson City, Missouri; 4 nieces and nephews Cathy, Hope, Ross and Rick; other relatives and many friends. Nina will be deeply missed by her family, but never forgotten. I will miss you so much, my darling, and we will meet again. Love, Arnold

Funeral services were held Friday, October 5, 2007, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home. Reverend Tony Reynolds officiated. Burial was in Elm Springs Cemetery, Kingsville, Missouri. Casket bearers were Bruce Brock, Jason Brock, Chad Fette, Rick Fette, Tan Nguyen, and Tom Wealand.
