Mary Sherwood

Mary "Meme" Aneita Sherwood, 77, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born Monday, October 6, 1930 in North Platte, Nebraska, the daughter of Len and Geneveive A. (Reynolds) Allen. She departed this life Monday, January 14, 2008 at the Appleton City Manor in Appleton City, Missouri. On July 16, 1955 she was united in marriage to William H. Sherwood in Lincoln, Nebraska

Mary graduated from the University of Nebraska, and received her teaching degree from Ottawa University. She started teaching at Louisburg, Kansas; later transferring to Wellsville, Kansas, and then to the Pleasant Hill, Missouri School district retiring in 1995. She had also worked at TWA where met her husband and at the Blackwell Sanders Law Firm as a Research Assistant.

She was a member of Pleasant Hill 1st Presbyterian Church; a life long member of the Eastern Star; Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.).

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by 1 grandson Jason Grandon, 2 brothers Eugene and Len Allen and 1 sister Dorothy Forrester.

She is survived by her husband Bill of Appleton City; 4 sons, Robert L. Sherwood of Arlington, Texas, William H. Sherwood, Jr. of Arlington, Texas, Donald C. Sherwood and Jo of Pleasant Hill, and John A. Sherwood and Julie of Green Acres Washington; 7 grandchildren, Alyssa, Nikki and Sam, Andrea , Charles, Harrison, and Madeleine; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 17, 2008, at the Pleasant Hill First Presbyterian Church. Reverend's Madeline and Jeffrey Mercer officiated. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pleasant Hill Education Foundation and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
