Marjorie Louise “Marge” Richerson, 97, of Lone Jack, Missouri, was born July 31, 1926, in Villa Grove, Illinois, the daughter of John R. and Lora F. (Franklin) Vaughn. She departed this life Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the John Knox Village Care Center.
Marge was a 1944 Murphysboro, Illinois, Township High School graduate.
On March 26, 1960, she was united in marriage to Gareld D. “Rich” Richerson. They built their life and home in Missouri and with family made lifetime memories during their 46 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2006.
While a senior in high school Marge performed civil service as a secretary for the War Department in Washington D.C. Later, after returning home, she worked for the Highway Department in Carbondale, Illinois. Years after moving to Missouri she became a secretary for the Lone Jack Baptist Church where she served for nearly three decades. Aside from her secretarial duties she was an active member of the church and cared for children in the nursery and Awanas. She loved listening to music and singing in choirs and ensembles. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, painting, bowling, and playing cards games with friends. She also enjoyed socializing with friends in the Evergreens, a Red Hat Club, and in later years at John Knox Village. Her passion was family and cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Marge was also preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.
She is survived by her three children, Janet Mandis of Carbondale, Illinois, Lynne (and Kirk) Brown of Pleasant Hill, and John (and Roxanne) Richerson of Spring Hill, Kansas; six grandchildren, Michael Mandis, Jessica Bracken, Zachary Brown, Jason Cowden, Kristin Jackson, and Megan Ballinger; sixteen great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was and funeral services were held Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Lone Jack Baptist Church. Reverend Jerry Tharp officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Matt Ballinger, Zachary Brown, Chris Jackson, Blaine Kleyh, Michael Mandis, and John Richerson. Honorary casket bearer was Jason Cowden.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lone Jack Baptist Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
