LORIEL J. OWSLEY
Loriel Jane “Lori” Owsley, 84, of Independence, was born, November 11, 1933, in Jefferson City, Missouri, the daughter of Clifford L. and Ada R. (Rosena) White. She departed this life, Thursday, January 4, 2018, at the Centerpoint Medical Center surrounded with love and family.
Loriel was a 1951 Sweet Springs High School graduate. On July 14, 1952, she was united in marriage to Paul E. Owsley in Harrison, Arkansas. They had two children, sons. Later they divorced but remained close friends throughout their lives.
Lori was employed as a Billing Clerk for the Tension Envelope Co. She has also worked as machine operator, school bus driver, receptionist at an animal hospital and secretary in an insurance agency. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She taught Sunday school and played the organ at the Stony Point Baptist Church in Kansas City, Ks. For the past 16 years she was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church in Buckner. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, needlepoint, crocheting, gardening and going to Branson with her friends. Her greatest passions were spending time, especially eating out, with friends and watching any movie with John Wayne.
Loriel was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Kenneth T. “Ted” White. She is survived by two sons, David (and Kristina) Owsley, and Kevin Owsley, both of Independence; four grandchildren, Matthew (and Deanna) Owsley of Chilhowee, Timothy Owsley of Harrisonville; Sarah (and Lauren) Owsley-Townsend, and Peter (and Brooke) Owsley of Independence; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; two brothers, Richard White of Oak Grove, and Gail C. White of Rolla; many other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Loriel’s life was held Monday, January 8, 2018, at the Oakland United Methodist Church, Buckner. Her son Reverend David Owsley officiated. Inurnment was in the Oakland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Oakland United Methodist church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
