Lloyd M. Franklin, 84, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born Saturday, November 3, 1923 in Dorchester, Texas, the son of A. P. and Frances Lavina (Marsh) Franklin. He departed this life Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the St. Joseph Medical Center, in Kansas City, Missouri.
On February 18, 1950, Lloyd was united in marriage to Ruth B. (Maleski) Franklin in Kansas City, Missouri.
Lloyd was a 1941 graduate of Lee's Summit High School. In 1942 he joined the United States Army, serving in the Philippines until his discharge in 1945. In 1946 he moved to Pleasant Hill as a "Jobber" for Phillips 66, delivering fuel to local farmers and service stations. In 1964 he went to work for Yennie and Jones as a Real Estate Salesman until his retirement in 1984. He was a life member of VFW Post #3118, Pleasant Hill.
He loved farming, cattle and really enjoyed gardening and giving the produce to family and friends, especially tomatoes. His favorite hobby was hunting and he dearly loved his German Shorthair dogs. He also liked horses and once owned a Tennessee Walking Horse. For the last 14 years he and his wife exercised at Longview college recreation center where they made many friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Ethel E. Reid.
He is survived by his wife of the home; 6 nieces Phyllis Hook and Lynette Gregg both of Pleasant Hill, Sue Ellen Wright of Overland Park, Kansas, Denise Reid-Shoaff of Kansas City, Missouri, Marta McCubbin and Carol Joullian both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 2 nephews Marshall Franklin and Douglas Franklin both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 1 brother Jack E. Franklin and his wife Peggy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and 1 brother-in-law Tom Reid of Kansas City, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 21, 2007. Reverend Russell Johnson and Evangelist Don Carlile officiated. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with the flag folding and presentation by VFW Post #3118. Casket bearers were Steven Bellah, Dennis Gregg, Mike Hamilton, Jim Hammontree, Mike Hook, and James Wright. Honorary casket bearers were Dorothy Burbridge, Richard Jones, Dale McClintock, Robert Shortridge, Pat Sudhoff, Robert Sudhoff, and Lillard Wilmoth.
