Lee W. Carnes, 85, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born Tuesday, June 13, 1922 in Strasburg, Missouri, the son of Asa Ralph and Hallie Maynota (Bigley) Carnes. He departed this life Friday, February 29, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.

Lee was united in marriage to Delores A. (Milberger) Carnes on January 8th, 1968, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Lee was a Master Plumber with local #8 for over forty years. He and his wife also operated a farm near Pleasant Hill where they raised cattle.

Lee was proud of his Masonic affiliation. He was a 50 year member and Past Master of Jewell Lodge #480; a member and past Worthy Patron of Ivy Leaf Chapter #215; a member of the Greater Kansas City Pastmasters; a member of Sword of Bunker Hill, Harry S. Truman Chapter #11; a member of the Ararat Shrine Temple where he was honored to serve as past commander of the Legion of Honor; and he was a York Rite Freemason. He was also a Scottish Rite Freemason where he was Master of the Consistery in 2000; and received his 33 degree in 2001.

He was a member of Lord of Love Lutheran Church in Belton. He was also WWII Army Air Corp veteran.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, and a step-daughter, Patricia Stewart.

He is survived by his wife Dee of the home; daughter Susan (and Angelo) Cambiano of KCMO; step-son Wayne (and Ruth) Stewart of KCMO; 6 grandchildren Michael Cambiano, Steven Cambiano, Pamela Cambiano, Stacy Johnson, Lille Stewart-Carnes, and Andrew Stewart; 8 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Lee was passionate about his farm and work itself and even recently talked about being in the fields this summer. Lee put in many long hours and took great pride in his work ethic. He enjoyed having his grandchildren in the tractor with him probably as much as they enjoyed being there. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and many neighbors.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home. Pastor Lesley M. Radius officiated. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Robert Brown, Michael Cambiano, David Carnes, Robert Driscoll, Wayne Dykes, Mike Gillespie and Gene Sloan.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Shriner's Burn Hospital and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
