Lawrence D. Oelger

December 30, 1940 — October 15, 2023

Pleasant Hill, Missouri

Lawrence D. "Larry" Oelger 82, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, went to his reward in glory, appropriately enough, early on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at the Lee's Summit Medical Center.  He was born December 30, 1940, in Knob Lick, Missouri the son of Leo and Dorothy (nee Bremner) Oelger.

Larry graduated from Ritenour High School in St. Louis, Missouri and earned degrees from both Nazarene Bible College and MidAmerica Nazarene University.

He was a Nazarene pastor for over two decades, serving the Missouri District at churches in Mountain View, Perryville, Sikeston, and Macon. He also worked for both the Olathe, Kansas Public School District and the Columbia, Missouri Public School District.  He was excited to return to one last camp meeting at Pinecrest Campgrounds this past July where he had invested his time and treasure for 70-plus years.

Larry was a certified car nut and an avid whitetail, waterfowl, and upland hunter, but his legacy will be the people that he poured into and the family and friends he loved.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bill Oelger and Jack Oelger.

He is survived by his sons, Aaron Oelger of Pleasant Hill and Denton Oelger of Great Bend, Kansas; his care companion for over twenty years, daughter-in-law, Dianne; as well as grandsons, Peyden and Drew, whom he loved very, very much. He was a dear uncle, great uncle, and great-great uncle; cousin, and brother-in-law; as well as a friend to many.  Larry was blessed by a lifelong friendship with Denny Golden and almost-lifelong friendships with others.  He is probably regretting not being able to pet Boone one last time, but was certain to catch up with Dakota, Remington, and Gauge as soon as he arrived in heaven.

Cremation has been accorded. Graveside services and inurnment were held Saturday, October 21, 2023, in the Knob Lick Cemetery, Farmington, Missouri.  Reverend Ken Harper officiated.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pinecrest Campgrounds. Contributions may be mailed directly to the Pinecrest Camp, 1252 Highway C, Fredericktown, MO 63645 or online at https://www.pinecrestcamp.org/larry-oelger-memorial.html
