LAWRENCE F. CHRISTESEN

Lawrence Floyd Christesen, 82, of rural Harrisonville, was born October 16, 1934, on the family farm established in 1912 North of Harrisonville, the son of Albert and Nora Bell (Kagarice) Christesen.  He departed this life, Monday, August 28, 2017, at his home surrounded with love and family.

In December 1955 Lawrence was united in marriage to Florence Neveda “Veda” Wussow. To this union three children were born; Rodney, Kirby, and Lawrence Leslie; they divorced in 1978.  In 1983, he was united in marriage to Sandra “Sandy” (Anderson) Clark.  They have enjoyed 34 years of marriage together.

He started working at the age of 15 following the death of his father in an automobile accident.  He worked on farms milking cows, mending fence, and putting up hay.  He went on to work in the foundry at the American Scale and Vise Company, later he drove a delivery truck for Coca-Cola. He later worked for Central Co-Op, Pleasant Hill, as a Petroleum Salesman. He retired in 1997.  He was a member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church.

Lawrence enjoyed working on things.  He was very particular…if it was going to get fixed; it would be right no matter how long it took.  He always said he needed to get paid by the job, not the hour!!

He enjoyed car magazines especially explaining things to the middle great grandson.  He was never idle, always finding something to be done.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother Marion; a half brother Gene Anderson; his son Kirby; and one grandson, Jeramiah Christesen.

He survived by his wife Sandy, of the home; two sons, Rodney (and Jeanie) Christesen of Harrisonville, and Leslie Christesen of Gravois Mills; step-son Kenny (and Trisha) Clark of Apopka, Florida; five grandchildren, Aubrey Clark of Apopka, Florida, Samantha Clark of Apopka, Alicia (and Damon) Sasyk of Harrisonville, Sara (and Chuck) Littrell of Grain Valley, Krista (and Chris) Kemerling of Harrisonville; six great grandchildren, Hunter and Carter Kemerling, Amelia, Sawyer, and Almina Sasyk, and Evelyn Littrell; one brother Marvin Christesen of Harrisonville; other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held Friday, September 1, 2017, at the funeral home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 2, 2017, at the funeral home. Reverend’s Mark Conway and Darryl Jones officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  Casket bearers were Leslie Christesen, Kenny Clark, William Jones, Chris Kemerling, Chuck Littrell, and Damon Sasyk.  Honorary casket bearers were Rodney Christesen, Marvin Christesen, Franklin Foster, and Wayne Springer.
