John Lawrence Rosanbalm, 91, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri was born Saturday, August 25, 1917 in Strasburg, Missouri, the son of John L. and Violet P. (Riner) Rosanbalm. He passed away peacefully September 2, 2008 at the Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Missouri. He had been a resident at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg for the past year.
On April 21, 1946, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Louise Carlile in Pleasant Hill. She survives at the home on the farm.
Lawrence was a 1935 Strasburg High School Graduate. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII serving from 1941 to 1945, in the 'F' Company, 6th Division, 63rd Infantry Regiment. He was employed at Bendix as a machinist for over 30 years retiring in 1985. He was an active member of the Pleasant Hill Community of Christ church where he served in the priesthood as Deacon, Priest, and Elder. He was also a member of the Pleasant Hill Lions Club, VFW Post #3118, Senior Citizens, Rooster Booster Club, and Butler DAV. He had also served on the Excelsior School Board. He enjoyed farming and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Leonard Rosanbalm, one half sister Marjorie McPhail and one granddaughter Melissa Allen.
He is also survived by 6 children Janice Louise Tuttle and her husband Keith of Pleasant Hill, Lawrence Eugene Rosanbalm and his wife Pamela of Pleasant Hill, Elizabeth Maureen Rosanbalm of Pleasant Hill, Jo Anne Ilene Stroot and her husband Steven of New Baden, Illinois, Nancy Wanjean Allen and her husband Mark of Pleasant Hill, and Carl Lyle Rosanbalm and his wife Jill of Pleasant Hill; 11 grandchildren Glenda Repp, Mark Palmer, Lisa Layton, Shane Rosanbalm, Corey Rosanbalm, Matthew Rosanbalm, Jesse Stroot, Stephanie Weight, Jeffrey Stroot, Michelle Allen, and John Rosanbalm; 12 great-grandchildren Tyler Repp, Savanna Palmer, Daniel Palmer, Makenzie Layton, Gracie Layton, Emily Layton, Landon Rosanbalm, Norah Rosanbalm, Madison Dial, Kashton Rosanbalm, Owen Rosanbalm, and Jeni Rosanbalm ; one sister Verna Waldrop; other relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Services were held Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 at the Pleasant Hill Community of Christ church. Evangelist Don Carlile officiated. High Priest Jean Hoover read the obituary. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Shane Rosanbalm, Corey Rosanbalm, Matthew Rosanbalm, John Rosanbalm, Mark Palmer, and Jeffrey Stroot. Honorary Casket bearers were Marion Carlile, Wallace Carlile, Rolland Hughes, Chad Reynolds, Duane Rogers, and Leonard Tucker. Military services at the graveside were performed by the VFW Post #3118 Honor Guard.
The Pleasant Hill Lions Club held a Rose Ceremony following visitation.
