John McDonald

John Joseph McDonald, 73, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born Monday, December 16, 1935 in Independence, Iowa, the son of Clarence V. and Celia A. (Toomey) McDonald. He departed this life at 6:25 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the Lee's Summit Medical Center, Lee's Summit, Missouri.

On February 8, 1958, he was united in marriage to Lois M. McDonald in Dubuque, Iowa.

John was a Director for the Social Security Administration in Kansas City retiring in August 1989. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Lions Club, Knights of Columbus Council #13113, Camdenton Marine Corps League, Pleasant Hill American Legion Newton Dudley Post #53, and the Pleasant Hill Coffee Club at Neighbors Cafe.

He was constantly on the go and always stayed busy. He loved to hunt and fish; and spending time at their lake home. His hobbies included woodworking and playing cards and he especially enjoyed a good game of poker.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son John Michael McDonald and an infant daughter Diane Marie McDonald. He is preceded in death by his brother Richard McDonald and his two sisters Sister Mary Clarence McDonald and Mary Ellen Koppi.

He is survived by his wife Lois of the home; one son Craig R. and Vicki Tindell of Overland Park, Kansas; four daughters Debra L. Tindell of Paola, Kansas, Janice L. and John Mathews of Leawood, Kansas, Cindy A. Click of Shawnee, Kansas, and Gerri K. and Jim Dowdy of Copperas Cove, Texas; eight grandchildren Chris, Mike, Zach, Katelyn, Mackenzie, Joshua, Brianna and Trey; two great grandchildren Briana & Brayden, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home. Deacon Gary Kappler of St. Bridget Catholic church officiated.

Graveside services were held Friday, June 12, 2009, at the St. John Cemetery in Independence, Iowa. Mrs. Sharon Bainbridge officiated. Military funeral honors conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lake Mary Center in Paola, Kansas or the American Heart Association and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
