Jimmy Duncan

Jimmy Laverne "Jim" Duncan, 72, of Harrisonville, Missouri, was born Sunday, November 8, 1936 in Putnam County, Missouri, near Lucerne, the son of Paul Laverne and Mary Laverne (Burress) Duncan. He departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior whom he served so faithfully on Friday, December 26, 2008 at the Lee's Summit Medical Center, he had been in declining health for the last three years.

Jim's mother died when he was only three weeks old and was raised by two loving grandparents Sam and Lena Duncan in Lucerne. He also spent time in the home of his maternal grandparents John and Lizzie Burress in Powersville, Missouri. As a young child in his first year of school he contracted polio; but overcame the disease, graduating from Unionville High School in 1954. In 1956 he and his grandmother Lena moved to the Pleasant Hill, Missouri area and started farming. There he met a neighbor girl and fell in love and on September 21, 1957, he was united in marriage to Daisy Ethelyn Cook in Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

He worked for the Gas Service Company in Lee's Summit, Missouri for over 30 years retiring in 1991. He also farmed full time.

He was an active member of the Antioch Southern Baptist Church in Harrisonville. He and Daisy still taught the Kindergarten Class and he was also the Prayer Chain Coordinator up to the time of his death. He had also served on Strasburg School Board.

He enjoyed farming, gardening and restoring old tractors, but especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Daisy of the home; two sons Brent Duncan (and Marti) of Pleasant Hill and P.D. Duncan (and Linda) of Kingsville; his daughter Deborah Hull (and Brett) of Pleasant Hill; four grandchildren Dustin Duncan of Pleasant Hill, Michelle Duncan of Pleasant Hill, Beth Pate (and Michael) of Pleasant Hill and Sarah Duncan of Kingsville; five great grandchildren Josey Pate, Dalyn Duncan, Riley Duncan, Luke Duncan, Hailee Brooke Lloyd; other relatives and friends

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at the funeral home. Reverend Ernie Cecil of the Antioch Southern Baptist Church in Harrisonville will officiate. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers are Brent Duncan, Dustin Duncan, P.D. Duncan, Brett Hull, David Lloyd and Michael Pate. The grandchildren and great grandchildren will all serve as honorary casket bearers.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the funeral home.
