J.E. Heltzel

J.E. Heltzel, 83, of Lone Jack, was born May 26, 1940, in Picher, Oklahoma, the son of Clarence Franklin and Cleo Nadine (Bell) Heltzel.  He departed this life Monday, January 15, 2024, at his home with his wife, Cheryl by his side.

J.E. was a 1958 Duenweg, Missouri, High School graduate.

On June 16, 1990, he was united in marriage to Cheryl L. (West) Phillips.

J.E. was employed as a Tree Trimmer for the Shade Tree Service Company.  He was a member of the Electrical Union Local #52.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching westerns & the C.M.A.’s, and traveling (he had visited all but five states). He especially enjoyed time spent with family.  He had a keen sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew him.

J.E. was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clarence F. “Bud” Heltzel, Jr. and Michael L. Heltzel; and one sister, Reba L. Vermillion.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl of Lone Jack; three daughters, Shari (and Walter) Walbrick of Frisco, Texas, Shelly (and Clint) Krehbiel of Lubbock, Texas; Staci (and Michael) Tongate of Weatherford, Texas; three bonus children, Amanda Phillips (and Rusty Frieben) of Harrisonville, Andrew (and Angie) Phillips of Butler, and Jacob (and Hannah) Phillips of Lone Jack; 19 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Cremation has been accorded.

Visitation and a celebration of J.E.'s life was held Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the funeral home.

Inurnment will be in the Lone Jack Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kansas City V.A. Medical Center and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
