James F. Walker, Sr., 77, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at his home.
He was born May 17, 1937 to James and Blanche (Vanorder) Williams and raised by George and Velma Walker and Mildred Walker all of St. Joseph.
He attended St. Joseph Lafayette High School.
He married Norma Carroll Fanning on November 6, 1959 in St. Joseph. She preceded him in death on February 18, 2014.
James worked for Hastings Construction for over thirty years until retiring at the age of 52 due to a stroke. He served in the United States Air National Guard until 1958 and the United States Air Force until 1962. He was a member of Carpenters Local 777 of Kansas City, MO.
He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid Chiefs fan. He also farmed cattle and horses. He owned and operated Quisenberry Feed Store near Pleasant Hill.
Mr. Walker was also preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and his brother, Ronald Walker.
He is survived by his three children: James F. Walker, Jr. (and Anita) of Creighton, Missouri, Vickie L Carter (and Phil) of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and John F. Walker and (Laura Howie) of Pleasant Hill, MO.; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and many other family and friends.
Cremation was provided by Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory of St. Joseph, MO.
Military honors at gravesite are planned, but no date was available at this time.
