Helen Loraine Short, 82, Wheatland, Missouri, was born Saturday, October 11, 1924 in Louisburg, Kansas, the daughter of Elmer Daten and Mary Jane (Smith) McCoy. She departed this life Sunday, July 22, 2007 at her home in Wheatland.

On June 21, 1941, Helen was united in marriage to Bernard A. Short in Harrisonville, Missouri. He preceded her in death on September 12, 1992.

Helen was a supervisor for the Lerner Shirt Factory in Pleasant Hill, retiring in 1971.

She enjoyed living at the Pomme De Terre. She loved to fish especially Trout season at Bennett Springs. She enjoyed being with her family, especially all of her grandchildren.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son Gary Lee Short and 2 brothers Charles and Christy (Tee) McCoy.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Helen Knight of Wheatland; 6 grandchildren Tracy Dean and her husband Danny of Cabool, Missouri, Pam Baker and her husband Jackie of Springfield, Missouri, Monty Ross and his wife Kim of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Marty Ross and his wife Karen of Harrisonville, Missouri, Jamie Short and Cristy Short both of Lee's Summit, Missouri; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; many nieces & nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 27, 2007, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill. Pastor Nick Stutsman officiated. Burial was in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, Missouri. Casket bearers were Tyler Baker, Bob Brinkoetter, Everette King, Wayne Peeler, Jason Rennison, and Don Twitchel. Honorary bearers were Darrell Bodenhammer, Pete Martinez, Lee Medley and Kolton Ross.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
