Gertrude Blanche “Gertie” Branham, 100, of Lone Jack, was born August 11, 1923, in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Frank Alfred and Julia Ann (Fischer) Nation. She entered the house of the Lord on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at her home in Lone Jack surrounded by family.
Gertie grew up and attended school in Springfield, Illinois.
On July 26, 1941, she was united in marriage to Wallace R. “Lefty” Branham in Springfield. To this union three sons, Wally, Ralph, and James were born. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2004, just twelve days short of their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Gertie was employed as Head of Housekeeping for the Vagabond Motel in Chula Vista, California. She had also owned and operated her own restaurant Gertie’s Café. She was a former member of the Lone Jack Christian Church and was currently a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, Lone Jack. She was very active in the Lone Jack Community where she volunteered regularly at the Lone Jack Civil War Museum, regularly baked cakes for the church children’s programs, and participated with the Red Hatters. She was the type of person that you would never forget once you met her. She was always composed and waiting and willing to help out anyone. She especially enjoyed going out meeting new people and have fun. She was not a leader but a humble servant to her church, community, and family. Lord knows we need more people like Gertie in this world!

She is survived by two sons, Wally (and Ruth) Branham of Lone Jack and Ralph (and Susan) Branham of McKinleyville, California; four grandsons, Robert Branham, John Branham, Marc Branham, and Michael (and Cindy) Branham; three great grandchildren, Zoey, Mikah, and Billy; other relatives and friends.

All were invited back to Wally and Ruth’s home following the services for refreshments.
