George W. Pilcher, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born Tuesday, August 8, 1916 in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, the son of Jonah and Mary Ellen (Aldridge) Pilcher. He departed this life peacefully Thursday, August 21, 2008, surrounded by his family at his daughter's home in Pleasant Hill at the age of 92 years and 13 days.
On March 28, 1948, George was united in marriage to Faleta Henley in Independence County, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on September 27, 1950. On August 15, 1953, he was united in marriage to Mary Edna Daryline Gatzemyer at our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville, Missouri. She preceded him in death on December 13, 1997.
George farmed in the Strasburg, Lone Jack, and Pleasant Hill area all of his life. He was a member of the Forest Grove Baptist Church and later attended St. Bridget Catholic Church in Pleasant Hill. He was a WWII Army Veteran. His life was farming and his family, he especially enjoyed making up and singing songs with his children and grandchildren.
He is also preceded in death by his parents, 3 sons Robert, George, and Leonard Pilcher; 1 granddaughter Janine Suzanne Tucker; 3 brothers Josiah Richard Pilcher, Jonah Homer Pilcher, and Lawrence Roosevelt Pilcher; 5 sisters Estella Pilcher, Margaret E. Strickland, Eunice L. Fenton, Myrtle I. Wells and Mary E. O'Dell.
He is survived by 1 son Phillip Pilcher and Debra of Pleasant Hill; 5 daughters Dorothy Barrow of Grain Valley, Rebecca Carpenter of Pleasant Hill, Alyce Kern and Larry of Pleasant Hill, Mary Tucker and John of Pleasant Hill, and Rita Pilcher and Edward Medlock of Pleasant Hill; 1 stepson William Pilcher and Vonnie of Mexico, Missouri; 20 grandchildren; 10great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008. Monsignor Robert Murphy will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Strasburg Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the VFW Post #3118 honor guard. Casket bearers are Chad Carpenter, Chris Carpenter, Matthew Lueck, Edward Medlock, Jarod Medlock, and Jacob Pilcher. Bobby Barrow is honorary casket bearer.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Leonard Pilcher or Janine Tucker Scholarship fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the care given by the Odyssey Hospice staff.
