Don F. Sears, 68, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri was born Monday, June 9, 1941 in Kansas City, Kansas the son of Wendell F. & Mildred K. (Fields) Sears. He departed this life on October 31, 2009, of a massive heart attack while on a pheasant hunting trip in Nebraska.
On August 10, 1985, he was united in marriage to Marsha Lynn (Mullins) Maggard in Raytown. She survives.
Don was a 1959 graduate of Southeast High School. He worked 42 years in the finance industry; retiring from Union Bank in 2003.
Don was an avid hunter and gun enthusiast. He shared this love by volunteering at the Discovery Center and, for the last twenty years, by teaching hunter safety for the Missouri Conservation Department. He was secretary of the Lake Lotawana Sportsmen's Club and taught Conceal Carry and Range Safety classes.
Don and his wife, Marsha, of twenty-four years traveled the world together.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha of Pleasant Hill; a son, Don Sears, Jr. of Butler, Missouri, a daughter, Julie Newman and husband Jim of Lee's Summit; a step-son, Michael McGinnis and wife Alecia of Oak Grove; a step-daughter Jennifer Johnson and husband Todd of Blue Springs; three grandchildren, Jeremy, Forest and Chelsea; three step-grandchildren, Maddison, Kennedy and Grant; one great-grandchild, Brooklyn; a sister Jo Ann Wright and husband Allen of Lee's Summit; and a brother John Paul Sears and wife Mary of Bucyrus, Kansas.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at the funeral home. Reverend Hubert Neth officiated.
Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Salvation Army or United Way of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
