Dale Gene Carter, 82, of Deming, New Mexico, formerly of Kansas City, Missouri, was born Wednesday, December 7, 1927 in Coffeyville, Kansas, the son of John D. and Ethel L. Carter. He departed this life at 3:34 a.m. on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the VA Regional Hospital in Albuquerque
Dale was a United States Navy WWII veteran.
On April 25, 1953, he was united in marriage to Gertrude A. Kelly in Bernillio, New Mexico.
Dale was employed as a mechanic and welder for Westfall GMC, Bill Star Trucking, and Trans Am Trucking, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Deming VFW Post #1477, the Scottish Rite-Valley of Kansas City, and Past Master of Swope Park Lodge #617 A.F & A.M.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son John Dale Carter on December 19, 1989.
He is survived by his wife Gertrude of the home; one son Louis Carter of Kansas City; 3 daughters Anita Rios of Independence, Janice Allen (and Wendy Noah) of Kansas City, and Ethel Metcalf (and David) of Lee's Summit; one sister Loraine Ecksund of Belen, New Mexico; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home. Reverend D. Kent Deubner of the Pleasant Hill First Christian Church officiated. Military graveside services and interment were in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery by the VFW Post #3118 Honor Guard. Casket bearers were Dale Carter, Tommy Sands, Gary Steinly, Wesley Steinly, Chris Woods, and Ryan Wyse.
Visitation was held Tuesday evening at the funeral home followed by Masonic services.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hospice Unit at VA Hospital in Albuquerque New Mexico and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
