Clinton Carthy

Clinton R. Carthy, 81, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born Tuesday, August 2, 1927 in East St. Louis, Illinois, the son of the late Harry W. and Daisy (Raar) Carthy. He departed this life Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Blue Springs, Missouri.

On June 10, 1951, he was united in marriage to Joanne R. Graham in East St. Louis, Illinois.

Clinton was a sales manager for over 32 years, working for Zales Jewelers and later for Hess & Culbertson Jewelers. He was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #13113 4th Degree, Kansas City Metro Men's Chorus and he served several terms on the Pleasant Hill Lay Clergy Council. He was a United States Navy Veteran and was honorably discharged in December 1947.

He was an avid golfer and loved to work in his yard and vegetable garden. Summer was one of his favorite times of year. He loved to BBQ and everyone especially loved his ribs.

Besides his parents, He was preceded in death by his two brothers Harry and Norman Carthy; and his two sisters LaVerne Newbold and Marcella Thompson.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Joanne Carthy of the home; his daughter Kathy Dinges and her husband Brian of Pleasant Hill; two granddaughters Dana and Lauren Dinges of Pleasant Hill; one great granddaughter McKenna Summers; other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, September 29, 2008, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Pleasant Hill. Monsignor Robert Murphy officiated. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Mike Burns, Maurice DeVolder, Greg Dustman, Charles Graham, Tim Long, and Conrad O' Connell. Honorary casket bearer were Jack Thurman. Members of VFW Post #3118 of Pleasant Hill provide graveside military honors.
