Charles Richard "Rick" Slavens, 52, of Olathe, Kansas, was born Thursday, October 23, 1958 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Charles E. and Betty L. (Phillips) Slavens. He departed this life Monday, June 6, 2011 at the Olathe Medical Center.

Rick was an expert tree trimmer working for several tree services over the past several years. He was an avid pool player and won numerous tournaments with his outstanding play. He was an excellent mechanic and enjoyed tinkering with cars. To sum Rick up you could say he was a social kind of guy; he loved to party and have a good time; he especially loved to sing Karaoke and many will remember the hours he spent singing. He was loved by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Jim Kane; and one brother Ronnie Slavens.

He is survived by two daughters Jessica Slavens of Kansas City, Kansas and Amy Slavens of Gardner, Kansas; two sisters Vickie Paul of Kansas City, Missouri and Pam (and Greg) Watson of Des Moines, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the funeral home. Reverend D. Kent Deubner minister of the Pleasant Hill First Christian Church officiated. Interment was in the Kingsville Cemetery.
