Bud Baker

Elbert Harold "Bud" Baker 86, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born May 28, 1929, near Eagle, Nebraska, the son of Oliver and Tillie (Gannaway) Baker. He departed this life Friday, July 24, 2015, at his home surrounded with love and family.

Bud was a 1947, Bear Creek High School graduate.

He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War.

On September 30, 1950, he was united in marriage to Jo Frances Bays in Harrison, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2012.

Bud was employed as an auto worker for General Motors, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Strasburg Baptist Church, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #3118, Pleasant Hill, and Jewel Lodge #480 A.F. & A.M.

Bud was also preceded in death by his parents, one son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Virginia Baker, one brother, Donald Baker, and one sister, Hazel Gunier.

He is survived by one daughter Cheryll L. (and Randy) Wilburn of Archie, Missouri; one son Ron (and Lori) Baker of Pleasant Hill; six grandchildren Jesse Baker of Pleasant Hill, Kathryn Baker of Harrisonville, Philip Wilburn of Archie, Grant (and Marlana) Wilburn of Effingham, Illinois, Samantha Baker and Sara Baker of Pleasant Hill; 3 great grandchildren Jace Baker, Jasmyn Baker, and Hadassa Wilburn; one sister, Shirley Wallen, of Grain Valley; other relatives and many friends.

Visitation was held from Monday, July 27, 2015, at the funeral home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at the funeral home. Pastor Preston Sanders of the Strasburg Baptist Church officiated. A final salute ceremony was conducted by the V.F.W. Post #3118. Graveside military services and interment were held in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Army and V.F.W. Post #3118 Honor Guard. Casket bearers were Philip Wilburn, Grant Wilburn, Jesse Baker, Bruce Wallen, Allen Bays, Stuart Bays, Ken Reid, and Chris Waugh.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Pleasant Hill Meals on Wheels and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
