Bruce McGillem

Bruce Alexander McGillem, 63, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born August 30, 1951, in Evansville, Indiana, the son of Aubrey and Edith (Woolsey) McGillem, Sr. He departed this life Saturday, October 11, 2014, at his home in Pleasant Hill.

Bruce was a Morgan, Kentucky, Union County high school graduate. At the age of 17 Bruce enlisted in the United State Marine Corps and proudly served his country for over 20 years retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant in 1989. He then went to work as a Financial Analyzer for the Bannister Federal Plaza in Kansas City.

On November 19, 2010, he was united in marriage to Yolanda DeLaTorre Villanueva in Pleasant Hill.

Bruce loved cooking, especially grilling. He loved listening to music, as well as playing the harmonica, guitar and the organ. He especially loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the American Legion.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kevin McGillem and Aubrey McGillem, Jr. He is survived by his wife Yolanda of the home; one son Sean McGillem, Sr. of Princeton, Kentucky; one daughter, Kimberly M. Buchard of Eddyville, Kentucky, two step-sons Michael Bowles of Blairstown, Missouri, and Matthew (and Tina) Bowles of Pleasant Hill; two sisters Shelly (and Terry) Cates of Madisonville, Kentucky, and Beth Ann McGillem of Henderson, Kentucky; other relatives; and a host of many friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2014, at the funeral home. Reverend D. Kent Deubner will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Graveside military services and interment will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Missouri. Casket bearers are Matthew Bowles, Michael Bowles, Sean McGillem, Joe Munoz, Chris Pacheco, Andy Palmer, Genaro Villanueva, and Mark Villanueva.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the family and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
