Billy Fulton Hartley, 91, of Harrisonville, Missouri, celebrated his homecoming, Sunday, April 10, 2016. Billy was born January 22, 1925, in Weaubleau, Missouri, the son of Opal and Hallie (Fulton) Hartley.
Billy grew up in Osceola, Missouri. Upon graduating from high school in 1942, he enlisted in the Navy serving his country during WW II on the Kirby Smith and Coral Sea.
On June 25, 1944, he married Mildred Attebery. To this union three children were born, Dee, Susan and Billy Lee.
After completing his tour of duty, he and Mildred settled in Kansas City, Missouri, to raise their family. Billy established his career as a barber and worked in Kansas City area for over 20 years.
On September 29, 1969, he married Viva D. "Vi" (Bay) Taylor. To this union brought Clayton and Stacey. In 1975 Billy and Vi moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri, where they became restaurant owners. Bill and Vi operated the "Snack Shack" from 1975 until its closing in 1980. In the late 70's while Vi ran the Snack Shack Bill opened "Bill's Barber Shop" also in Pleasant Hill. After closing the Snack Shack Bill and Vi moved to Harrisonville. Bill continued to barber in Pleasant Hill until his retirement in 2007 at the age of 82.
Billy played baseball while in high school, enjoying fishing, hunting (especially duck), building and flying model planes, NASCAR and a little river boat time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parent; spouses, Mildred Hartley and Viva Hartley; his son Billy Lee Hartley; and a brother J. Allen Hartley.
Those left to mourn are; daughters Dee (and Ron) Brandt of Linn, Missouri, Susan (and Danny) Warnes of Gallatin, Missouri, and Stacey (and Mike) Warren of Pleasant Hill; son Clayton (and Patti) Taylor of Independence, Missouri; daughter-in-law Arlene (and Charles) Hartley Lorimor of Millington, Tennessee; grandchildren, James Clemmer, Tonya Newbound, Todd Holcomb, Priscilla Whitt, Dustin Duncan, Michelle Lloyd, Austin Warren, Ashley Warren, Tara Salas, Amanda Taylor, Kyle Hartley, and Lee Hartley; 21 great grandchildren; and his significant other Barbara Mathews of Harrisonville.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the funeral home. Mr. Bill Rosser officiated. Graveside military services and interment followed in the Orient Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Navy and the V.F.W. Post #3118 Honor guard. Casket bearers were James Clemmer, Dustin Duncan, Chuck Fulton, Todd Holcomb, Clayton Taylor, and Austin Warren.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pleasant V.F.W. Post #3118 - Veteran's Relief Fund or Wounded Warriors and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
