William Joseph "Bill" Eakins, 85, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born Friday, February 6, 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Jesse May and Helen Emma (Mohan) Eakins. He departed this life Friday, June 25, 2010 at his home.
On June 2, 1973, Bill was united in marriage to Edna Marie (Taylor) Becker in Pleasant Hill.
He was a World War II Army Veteran serving in the South Pacific Theatre.
Bill was employed as a Millwright for several pharmaceutical companies in the Kansas City area. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #3118, Pleasant Hill.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Robert and Jesse; and two sisters Josephine and Helen.
He is survived by his loving wife Edna of the home; one son Terry (Anita) Eakins of Stillwell, Kansas; one daughter Roxanne Higbee of Mission, Kansas; step sons James (Veronica) Becker of Ft. Mohave, Arizona and Robert (Dora May) Becker of Harrisonville, and Charles Becker of Austin, Texas; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home. Reverend Carl Knapp of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church officiated. Graveside Military Services and interment was in the Floral Hills East Cemetery, Lee's Summit by the Pleasant Hill VFW Post #3118 Honor Guard. Casket bearers were members of VFW Post #3118.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
