Betty Louise Lotspeich, 89, of Pleasant Hill, was born December 11, 1935, in Lee’s Summit, the daughter of Hubert R. and Molly L. (Rayl) Shewmaker. She departed this life Monday, February 3, 2025, at her home.
On January 3, 1986, she was united in marriage to James E. Lotspeich in Harrisonville. He preceded her in death on September 7, 2019.
Betty grew up working on her parents’ farms alongside her siblings. At a young age she went to work for the Pleasant Hill Garment Factory and later for Rupert’s Plastic Manufacturing in Blue Springs. In the 1970’s she opened the Palladium Theatre in Harrisonville where many country-western stars appeared on stage, most notably Roy Rogers who visited on several occasions. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, eating (especially a good cheeseburger) and spending time with family. She loved to spend time at their cabin on Truman Lake and fish. She and Jim always provided the crappie for the annual Shewmaker Mother’s Day dinners.
Betty was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert “Bobby” Pridgen; two daughters, Connie Greene and Kathy Warner; one brother, Donald Shewmaker; and two sisters, Evelyn Darlene Bush Baston and Carolyn J. “Susie” Gregg; and her half-sister, Wilma Owens.
She is survived by six grandchildren, Brian Warner, Jeremy Warner, David Warner, Bobbie (and Trent) Gustin, Chris (and Nicole) Warner, and Lindsey Dempsey; 31 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; one stepdaughter, Lori Stiffler three brothers, Joe Shewmaker, Richard (and Karon) Shewmaker, and Sam (and Karon) Shewmaker; other relatives and friends.
The family would like to acknowledge Amanda Reinsch, her great niece, for the compassionate daily care she has provided Betty in the last several years.
Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2025, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the funeral home. Elder Butch Shewmaker will officiate. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers are Bobbie Gustin, Brian Warner, Chris Warner, David Warner, Jeremy Warner, and Nicole Warner.
