Ann Green

April 10, 1942 — March 3, 2025

Pleasant Hill, Missuri

Cora Ann Green, 82, of Pleasant Hill, was born April 10, 1942, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, the daughter of Lawrence E. and Bertha M. (Isbell) Green. She departed this life March 3, 2025, at the Seasons Rehab & Healthcare Center in Kansas City surrounded with love and family.

Ann grew up in Adrian and Archie, attending high school in Archie.

In 1958, she was united in marriage to Charles E. Porter in Kansas City. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1973.

Ann managed the Ray-Pec School Cafeteria and later managed the Twin Pines Country Club in Harrisonville. She attended the Big Creek Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill, and volunteered regularly at the Lay Clergy Thrift Store in downtown Pleasant Hill.

She was a highly skilled, creative seamstress, crafting memorable garments for her children and especially her grandchildren. Quilting and crocheting beautiful blankets to be enjoyed and passed down in her memory. Her distinctive style and dress made her standout in every room. Ann’s healthy lifestyle was present in tending to a large garden, canning, harvesting from nature, supporting son, Aaron’s love of fishing and hunting, preparing his wild game for the family meals. Also known for her signature dishes made from scratch including biscuits and gravy, fried chicken, cobblers, crème puffs, mayonnaise, and carrot cake; eldest son, Clayton recalls birthdays made special with one of his favorites.

Her interests included horses (not black ones) and horse racing, realizing a dream by attending the Kentucky Derby with her daughter and son-in-law, Susi and Clint. Later in life she discovered a love of dance, performing locally and shared her passion with others teaching western dance at Broadway Village, most notably teaching her grandkids, the “Henry Crip”. Son, Jeffrey credits a shared love of performing to his mother and some of his best memories. Described by her children as a mother that exuded a captivating charm that drew her to you with style, grace, and just a touch of sass. A signature wink, smile, and laugh, let you know you were home. She will be missed

Ann was also preceded in death by her parents; four siblings, Johnny Green, Bobby Green, Danny Green, and Joyce Richmond; and one grandson, Grant Long.

She is survived by five children, Clayton (and Melissa) Porter of Independence, Aaron (and Theresa) Porter of Claremore, Oklahoma, Carolyn Sue “Susi” (and Clint) Long of Pleasant Hill; Jeffrey Porter of Kansas City, and Robert (and Melissa) Forrester of West Plaines, Missouri; five siblings, Etha Lee (and David) Porter of Odessa, Linda (and Steve) Havens, of Butler, Peggy (and Ed) Gary of Florida, Robert (and Wanda) Green of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Brenda (and Kermie) Lienke of Lexington, Missouri; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Cremation has been accorded. A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
